When to Update Your Headshot (And Why It Matters) | Niagara Headshot Photographer

Professional headshots and personal branding photography in Niagara.

For many people, their headshot ends up being something they use for years without thinking about it. The same photo sits on LinkedIn, a company website profile, a speaking bio, or a business card long after it reflects where they are in their career.

As a general rule, it’s a good idea to update your professional photo every couple of years. If you make a noticeable change to your appearance, such as a completely different hairstyle, a significant change in hair length, or something else that alters how people recognize you, it can make sense to update it sooner.

A current portrait can make a real difference. It helps people recognize you, builds trust before you ever meet, and shows you the way you want to be seen professionally.

At Haskell Photography, we photograph headshots and personal branding portraits for people across Niagara and beyond. Some clients are updating their professional profile. Others are building a portfolio, launching something new, or simply want images that better represent who they are and what they do.

While the two are related, they serve different purposes.

Headshots

A headshot is typically a tight portrait that focuses on your face and expression.

These images are often used for LinkedIn profiles, company team pages, press features, casting submissions, or personal portfolios. The goal is simple. You want to look confident, approachable, and authentic.

Personal Branding and Portfolio Images

Some sessions go beyond a single portrait. These might include different outfits, wider compositions, or images that show more personality and context around the work you do.

For entrepreneurs, creatives, performers, and anyone building a personal brand, having a small collection of strong images can make a real difference.

One of the most common concerns people have before a session is whether they will know how to pose. The reality is that most of our clients are not used to being photographed, which is why every session is fully guided from start to finish. You are never left wondering what to do in front of the camera. The goal is simply to create images that feel natural, confident, and true to how you want to present yourself.

Many people begin searching for a Niagara headshot photographer when they realize their current images no longer reflect where they are today. Sometimes that comes with a career move, launching a new business, updating a portfolio, or simply deciding it is time for something better.

For a limited time this spring, we are offering a promotion on two of our portrait sessions. If updating your headshot or building a small set of portfolio images has been sitting on your to-do list for a while, this is a good opportunity to take care of it.

Sessions are available in studio or on location. If you are unsure which direction would suit your needs best, we are always happy to help suggest the right approach.
